The first of 430 handmade epoxy clay tiles are officially on the heart! The insanity of this undertaking is officially coming into focus.
When I finally sat down to count how many tiles were going on this heart – I freaked a little. Until now, I didn’t have a reason to count them. I’ve made a lot of gross assumptions in preparing for this thing – including, but not limited to, an expectation of placing a new order for clay every few days until I can predict how much area a tub is going to cover. With that kind of mentality, apparently you don’t count something like that until you want to know the total for a TikTok video.
The pros: these things look awesome. The stamps are incredible. (Note to self: we should do a materials wrap-up post when I finish this thing up.) The cheap-ish clay-working tools I found are doing great.
The cons: I’m likely being a little too meticulous while experimenting, but I do think the end result is impressive for someone who doesn’t get to put her hands on art supplies nearly enough. The time, though. The time is disappearing faster than I can move. It’ll be interesting to see just how quickly we can get this beauty back to KC.
For today, I’ve scratched the surface of faux tile-making and am pretty proud of the progress. I’m already anxious to see what this looks like with all the side-by-side textures.
